Where can I find missionary travel deals?
I am wondering where I can find special travel discounts for missionaries?
There are a number of travel agencies that specialize in missionary travel and have contracts with the airlines to provide not only better prices, but also greatly enhanced flexibility.
For instance, Golden Rule Travel’s missionary contract with Lufthansa/United allows free changes (if it includes non-Lufthansa segments, it costs $50 per change), refunds for $125, and very competitive prices. For instance, flying from Detroit to Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania (in Africa) cost $1600 with the cheapest publicly available price, but with Golden Rule’s missionary contract, it was only $1400. With the $1600 fare, changes would have been $300+, but with the missionary contract fare ($1400), it only cost $50 per change.
They also check a lot of different sources whenever you ask them for a quote: their special contracts, their consolidators/wholesalers, online travel engines, and their airlines reservations systems.
Finally, in my experience (and of the testimonials on their site), they have terrific customer service. If you ever get stuck in some foreign country because of an airline mishap or cancellation or any sort of problem, you can call their owner 24×7 on his cell phone and he’ll do his best to fix the problem.
btw, I have worked as a missionary in Thailand and a few other countries I can’t mention publicly. I have used Golden Rule quite a lot and refer them to others.
