Allegiant Air to start charging for overhead bins (local6)
Allegiant Air will charge passengers $35 to carry their own bag on board the
plane and stow it in an overhead bin.
The change starts with flights booked on Wednesday, said spokesman Brian
Davis. Passengers who pay online when they book travel will pay less, but the
price hasn’t been set, he said.
Each passenger will be allowed to carry one smaller bag, such as a purse or
briefcase that fits under a seat, for free.
Customers said they aren’t happy about paying extra to use the overhead bin.
“You’re kidding me, for a carry-on? I can ship my stuff cheaper than that,”
said traveler June Groustra.
The Schwab family flew into Orlando for their vacation with their family of
four and they said the extra charge would cost them $280 more.
“”I”ll go on another airline and get a free soda or something,” said Troy
Schwab.
Allegiant officials said customers can go online to pay in advance for between
$10 and $30 a bag.
Allegiant ferries travelers from smaller cities to vacation spots such as
