International Travel Tips For A Safe And Trouble-Free Flight   by Dean Orbell

Traveling internationally is much different from traveling domestically. Yes, domestic and international flights still incorporate security checkpoints and standard bag checks, but domestic flights, even to Guam or the Dominican Republic, do not require visas. In order to avert any delays, jail time or even fines, you will want to plan accordingly; this will ensure that you steer clear of any issues while traveling overseas.

Pre-Flight Arrangements

Ward off dilemmas and plan your trip out well before you get on the flight. If you are going to be spending time around popular tourist sites in the country, it is best to purchase a language dictionary or familiarize yourself with some good tour guides. If you travel without a guide, make sure you have a sense of important words and signs in order to communicate, because the last thing you want is to upset someone or step into the wrong restroom. Basic language-translation dictionaries should instruct you in the necessary words and maybe even standard driving signs. In order to continue to make purchases with your credit cards overseas, you must call your credit card company and inform them about your trip. If you hope to save money on flights, hotel room and travel guides, plan ahead of time to avoid issues and costly fees.

Ordering your Passport

Do not let US passports expire, as you will be subjected to penalties, and you may even be required to do jail time if you do not renew them. Your passport may still be valid before leaving, but if your passport expires while in a foreign country, you will have to extend your vacation and have it renewed. An expired passport while in a foreign country can lead to fines and jail time, so save yourself the hassle and plan properly. Besides not letting your passport expire, you want to allow for plenty of time to receive your passport on time. Standard processing times take 4 to 6 weeks while expedite processing times take 2 to 3 weeks, so do not expect your passport will arrive overnight. Do not hold off ordering your passport until the final moment and be forced to alter your flight dates and times because it did not arrive; just get a passport at least 2 months ahead of time.

Visa Requirements

It is important to remember that visa regulations are always changing. In order to learn about the latest visa regulations, you should visit the country’s website and pay attention to the up-to-date foreign traveler laws, including the kind of visa you are eligible for and the length of your stay.

For instance, Russian visas may allow you to travel to Siberia, and you may not need to carry your documents with you at all times as is required in China.
